Associate Professor Kevan Polkinghorne (BHB, MBChB, FRACP, MClinEpi, PhD)

Associate Professor Kevan Polkinghorne (BHB, MBChB, FRACP, MClinEpi, PhD) is a full-time Staff Specialist and Head of the haemodialysis programme at Monash Medical Centre and Adjunct (Clinical) Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine & Department of Epidemiology & Preventive Medicine, Monash University. A/Prof K Polkinghorne completed his clinical nephrology training in 2001 and from 2001 to 2004 he worked full-time in clinical research/epidemiology, enrolled in a PhD programme funded by a NHMRC post graduate medical scholarship. His research interests include haemodialysis including vascular access and treatment modality comparisons. He is regarded as the vascular access expert in Australia and is the head & convener of the Australasian nephrology guidelines (CARI guidelines) vascular access guideline working group. He has a specific research interest in renal epidemiology including chronic kidney disease and evidence implementation. He has experience and expertise in the design, conduct and detailed analysis of observational cohort studies in community setting (eg AusDiab Study) and in a large national database (ANZDATA registry) and well as the conduct of clinical trials.
