Dr Walker (Te Whakatōhea and Ngāto Porou) is a renal specialist working in Palmerston North hospital. He has the privilege of serving as Chair of Te Kaunihera Rata o Aotearoa (the New Zealand Medical Council), and is the Deputy Chair of Te Ohu Rata o Aotearoa – the Māori Doctors Association. His research interests include achieving better access for Māori and Pasifika to kidney transplantation. Dr Walker is keen to see health equity for all underserved people in Aotearoa, recognising that health practitioners, health service providers and a well-designed health system are key to realising this most important of goals.
