Jaqui Hughes

Professor Jaqui Hughes is a clinical nephrologist and clinician researcher. Hughes identifies her cultural heritage as a Torres Strait Islander woman, as central to her professional roles in weaving both ethical responsibility with both discovery (research) and health improvement (translations in policy and practice). Hughes works in the Northern Territory (Australia), at Royal Darwin Hospital and appointed in 2022, as Matthew Flinders Professor in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advancement (Darwin). Her experience in research informed health improvement include local clinical practice improvement (New Start Dialysis Transition Program), and nationally as deputy chair of National Indigenous Kidney Transplantation Taskforce. Hughes holds funding from NHMRC for leadership fellowship and a longitudinal cohort study (eGFR3 Study). Hughes received the 2023 Lowitja Institute Cranlana Award for ethical leader
