Richard Kitching

Academic nephrologist-scientist, Monash University and Monash Health

Richard Kitching is an academic nephrologist-scientist with a special interest in immune kidney disease, particularly ANCA-associated vasculitis. He heads the Monash Vasculitis Clinic. In late 2018 he and colleagues in Australia and New Zealand from the disciplines of Clinical Immunology, Nephrology and Rheumatology founded the ANZ Vasculitis Society (ANZVASC), a patient facing multidisciplinary professional society to improve vasculitis education, research and care in Australia and New Zealand. He holds Monash University and Monash Heath appointments and serves on the Editorial Boards of J Am Soc Nephrol, Kidney Int, Clin J Am Soc Nephrol, Internal and Emergency Medicine, and Nephrology. His research focusses on severe autoimmune kidney disease, from loss of tolerance to effector responses, aiming to use more targeted therapies and restore tolerance. He has been funded by NHMRC Project and CRE Grants, and an EU Horizon 20/20 Consortium. His publications include papers in Nature, Nature Reviews Disease Primers, Nature Medicine, Nature Communications, J Am Soc Nephrol, Kidney Int, PNAS USA and the Journal of Clinical Investigation.
