Carmel Hawley

Associate Professor Carmel Hawley is a physician researcher and clinical trialist.  Her clinical role is Staff Specialist at Princess Alexandra Hospital and Assistant Director, In-centre Haemodialysis.   In 2005, she was one of the leaders in the formation of the Australasian Kidney Trials network (AKTN) where she continues as Chair of the Operations Secretariat.    She has led a number of investigator initiated trials in the last decade, has been engaged in key international industry trials and has forged national and international networks. She is involved in clinical trial primary design, conduct, analysis, and reporting of trials designed to test new interventions and changes the practice of patients with kidney disease as per her role at the Australian Kidney Trials Network (AKTN).  Her other roles will be to ensure international collaboration in clinical trials as appropriate, to have a major role in new evidence acquisition in haemodialysis therapy and will serve a major role as a mentor of students at all levels and in guiding career development of young physician researchers down the clinical trialist pathway, including knowledge of statistical methods required in clinical trials conduct.
